Former Manchester United ace says Alexis Sanchez should be offloaded from the club

Former Manchester United ace Andrei Kanchelskis believes Alexis Sanchez’s career at the club could take the same trend as that of Fernando Torres at Chelsea unless he pursues a fresh challenge elsewhere. The Chile international joined the Red Devils from Arsenal in a straight-swap deal involving Henrikh Mkhitaryan in January 2018, but he has since struggled for form with just five goals scored across all competitions.

Speaking to BWIN, Kanchelskis said that nothing has gone right for the Chilean since making the switch to Old Trafford and the club could be better off parting ways with his services, he said: “Sanchez is at risk of finishing his career in the same way Torres did at Chelsea. Torres was the main man at Atletico Madrid and Liverpool, but he is now remembered for the tough time he had at Chelsea. Sanchez has clearly shown that he has the capability to play with the best teams in the world, but Man United doesn’t suit his style of play and he’s never looked settled into the dressing room since joining the club. I think it’s best for Man Utd and Sanchez if he were to move on this summer.”

Sanchez has barely featured from the starting lineup under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this year and he is currently on the sidelines after picking up a knee problem during the Premier League game against Southampton last month. The Chilean has been backed to make a comeback during the final fortnight of the campaign but it remains to be seen whether Ole would consider the attacker for the final phase of the season without much practice.

Manchester United are currently sixth on the league standings, but they are within two points off the top four positions. The Red Devils most recently suffered a 2-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers on the road. The loss was their third from the previous four matches across all competitions.
