FORGET THE PAIN

The Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has said that the club and the players should forget the memories of the painful and disappointing exit from the Champions League from the group stages itself, despite being the holders of the competition. Chelsea won the competition for the first time in their history only seven months ago and were coming into the group stages as the defending champions. However, they suffered the embarrassment of being the first club to exit the competition from the group stages after having come into it as the holders.

Torres, who has now won his first Champions League title, has said that the club should not think too much about the disappointment and focus on the upcoming competitions instead. As a result of finishing third in the group stage, Chelsea will now be playing in the Europa league. Torres has said that this was an opportunity for the team to win another competition and people should not be thinking about the Europa league as not a worthy competition to win. Torres has also said that the Club World Cup championship in Japan gives them a great opportunity to work in the disappointment of the UEFA Super Cup defeat against Atletico Madrid and the defeat in the community shield.

“Nothing can make up for it but we must look forward, we are in a different competition now, the Europa League, and we want to win that too to play in and win another Super Cup. But now we must forget the Champions League, because we are out, and focus on this [the Club World Cup] instead. There are not many chances to play in this competition, so we have to take it. Who knows if we will play in another one?” said Torres ahead of the Club World Cup tournament.
