The manager of Chelsea, Roberto Di Matteo, has hinted that Fernando Torres might not be included in the starting XI for the all important match against Manchester United which is going to be played at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Torres has scored 5 goals for Chelsea in the ongoing season, but, he hasn’t yet looked at his very best. His performance in some of the matches has been way below par and he has missed some easy scoring opportunities in the last few games. Especially, in Chelsea’s last match against Shakhtar Donetsk, Torres was completely out of form. Chelsea lost that match by a close margin of 2-1.
Chelsea is currently at the top of the Premier League points table with 22 points in 8 matches. On the other hand, Manchester United is at no. 3 with 18 points in 8 matches. Both the teams are in fantastic form at the moment. Chelsea has won six out of its last seven games, while, United has won its last four games on the trot. So, the Sunday’s match is expected to be an absolute cracker.
Talking to the reporters ahead of this all important match, Roberto De Matteo said, “Our performance in the last game wasn’t up to the mark, but, we should put that game out of our system now. That was not our day.”
“Manchester United is one of the strongest teams in the competition. They have got two world class strikers in the form of Rooney and Van Persie and we will have to be extremely careful against these two”
When asked about the form of Torres, De Matteo said, “The game against Shakhtar wasn’t a great game for him, but, one bad match doesn’t make him a bad player. He is world class striker and he will definitely play better in the next matches.”
When asked whether Torres would be included in the starting XI against United or not, De Matteo said, “I haven’t yet decided about the team combination. But, I think there is nothing wrong in rotating the players. I have done that before.”
