In the previous edition of the Champions League, Real Madrid had to face off with Athletic Madrid as both Spanish teams managed to reach the finals of the European competition.
Athletic Madrid took the lead through Diego Godin who found the back of the net at the 36th minute and it looked like the team of Diego Simeone was going to be crowned as the champions of Europe but a 93rd minute goal from Sergio Ramos tied the match up 1-1.
Bale, Marcelo and C.Ronaldo all added their mark on the score-sheet as they sealed the victory for Real Madrid.
This match was played on May 24 of 2014 in the preceding Champions League but both teams are now battling against each other once more as they were pitted together in the quarter-finals of the European tournament in the current season.
Fernando Torres is hoping that Athletic Madrid can take revenge and take out Real Madrid from the Champions League.
“Everyone is waiting the whole year to play these kinds of games, the quarterfinals of the Champions League against the biggest team in the world right now. I’m still young and I still have many years to play hopefully here in Atletico. I don’t really look forward to playing in a different team right now.”
‘’When it comes to Real Madrid, we are ready. We are ready to compete, to fight, and we have the confidence to pass that game and get to the semifinals,” Torres said as he stated that Athletic Madrid is ready for Real Madrid.
The first leg of the quarter-finals battle between Athletic Madrid and Real Madrid was played on April 14 and it concluded with a goal-less scoreboard as neither team managed to score a single goal and everything will be decided on April 22 at the Santiago Bernabeu.
