LEBOUEF: DROGBA HAS TO GO

Former Chelsea legend Frank Leboeuf has said that Didier Drogba should depart Chelsea if Fernando Torres is set to become a hit at Stamford Bridge.

There have been reports that Chelsea were prepared to sell Fernando Torres in order to cut their losses, but Frank Leboeuf is of the opinion that it is Didier Drogba who should be sold in order to get the best out of Fernando Torres. Didier Drogba at Chelsea in 2004 for around £ 24 million and he has been the first choice goalkeeper at Stamford bridge since then. Every striker who has arrived at Chelsea since then has either flopped or left the club immediately.

Rather than be sentimental regarding the failure of strikers at Chelsea, Frank Leboeuf has suggested that Didier Drogba should be sold in the January transfer window if Chelsea are to see the best of the Spaniard. Chelsea have already sold Nicolas Anelka in the January transfer window, while other striker Salomon Kalou is expected to depart at the end of the season. Both Salomon Kalou and Didier Drogba will be coming to the end of their contracts at the end of the season, with no resolution in sight for both these players.

Frank Leboeuf, though, argues that this is the best decision for Chelsea. “Torres will come good in time. But it’s the end of the road for many of his team-mates. I’ve seen the likes of Nicolas Anelka have left and Alex will follow — and they shouldn’t be the only ones. Players like John Terry and Frank Lampard should stay as they are the symbol and heartbeat of the club,” Frank Leboeuf said in a recent interview. Chelsea are in the process of freshening up the team by bringing in a number of young players, with older ones like Alex set to depart.
